On some unknown date in 1963, the world ended. That was when one Harvey Ball created the first perfect image of a smiley face in over 10,000 years, summoning a catastrophe so nonsensical and strange that roughly 85% of the population of the planet was killed immediately, with that number rising to almost 98% in the year 2012.
The catastrophe caused great ruin, summoning demons from some alternate universe known as the Six Heralds, who watch over this world and destroy anyone who they deem unfit. The world is also infested with Grinners, horrible gremlins with smiley face balls for heads and an unquenchable thirst for human emotion.
Amongst the ruins of society, there are bandits, criminals, and those who seek to rule over the world, just as it's about to end. Smile! You're having a good time!
