The Aurors were Death Eaters in disguise. If they found him, they would kill him. Eventually, he found himself on a pier in California, and the fear in his chest started to ease.
Remus Lupin wasn't allowed to go to Hogwarts. He wasn't allowed to hold a wand. In fact, he wasn't even allowed to leave the cellar until a burst of accidental magic broke the door open. Dark Creatures and Muggleborns were hunted, usually killed, and sometimes enslaved. He and Lily had found each other on the streets and eventually started working for the old man who ran the Order - the only resistance group trying to bring down Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Remus is a soldier. He goes out, he gets the job done, and he waits for the next set of orders.
And for the last two weeks, he's been on the sidelines because of an injury.
His next mission, one he can do even with his injury? Retrieve Sirius Black.

Early chapters set the framework, but later chapters are some of my best writing.
