Five years go by in a blur of rage, which mellows out into a dull, throbbing misery. He never gets over it. He doesn’t think he has the ability to.
Five years go by; he cannot move on with his life. He doesn’t know why he is stagnant. He couldn’t move on even if he tried.
As it seems, five years of friendship can be ruined in one single night. L and Light reconnect five years after their messy split, still marred by the loss, and are forced to address things as they come. Namely, why L decided to confess right before leaving.

“Satisfied?” Light grumbles into the phone, shutting his laptop with a soft click, and padding his way over to his bathroom. As he stands, L’s gentle voice crackles over the speaker.
“No, never.”
“Predictable,” he sneers, running his toothbrush under the tap water, “So, then, what would keep you satisfied? If anything.”
There’s shuffling on L’s end, before he says, fluid, like a paintbrush over wood, all too easy, like it’s the easiest thing in the world, “You.”
The Kira case wanes in 2004, and eventually goes cold. L departs from Japan, and five years go by. Until, one night in 2009, L tells Light that the Kira case is being reopened, and L wants to help acquit him before he is inevitably caught. But, like always, there is a catch that comes with L's favour, and now Light is stuck playing teacher in a house full of genius orphans while mending the rift that had blossomed between himself and L.

His inbox is flooded immediately with replies.
L and Light are rapidly growing Minecraft YouTubers. Faceless YouTuber Kira beats faceless YouTuber L's speedrun world record with an almost impossible time, and L thinks he has cheated to do it. Naturally, he will not let it slide. Neither will Kira's stans.

L tilts his head, inquisitive, smiling all the while, as the tap runs its timer, and the water stops flowing.
Clearing his throat, Light stands and looks back in front of him, at his reflection, ignoring the looming reflection of L over his shoulder, “Of course I lie. Who doesn’t? But I don’t lie where it matters. Only little white lies.”
He fixes his tie, flicks the water droplets off his hands and styles his hair, framing the curling side pieces around his jaw.
"I like that you lie,” L tells him, “Because I always know when you do, and you know that I know. It’s like an implicit game. I just wonder when you’ll stop hiding behind words and just tell me that you’re Kira.”
Yagami Light is the front-man for an unpopular Visual Kei tribute band while also juggling being the world's most elusive serial killer. L is assigned to the case, and has to figure out how to draw Light out into a confession, but finds himself tangled up in his own emotions, which complicates things a lot.

Instead, mainstream streamers Kira and L beef on Twitch during the day, share an apartment at night, and have late-night discussions about justice and crime at midnight; all while circling each other over and over again, unable to decide whether to destroy or understand one another.
This was supposed to be a game. It stops being one when L dedicates his undergraduate thesis to Light.

"That wood, it is very very old." Nigel carefully stood up from the bed, now standing limped around and searched the shack. "Wow, this is extraordinary." He said while looking until his eyes came across the portrait. "A portrait? Lionel?" He asked as he turned to face Steve, the miner nodded. The elderly man turned his head back around and gaped as he stared at the painting. "Amazing, this could be- and dear I say it, the place where Lionel might have been trying to drag Herobrine to before his untimely demise."
"I kind of had a feeling that maybe it was." Steve frowned after seeing that image of Lionel arguing with Brutus. The snowy hills weren't too far from that location, Lionel was so close.

so so so so so so so so so good, ive never read a minecraft ff with worldbuilding and characterisation so good, plus this banger of a plotlineyou guys dont know the impact this ff had on the herobrine community was generational. everyone and their mom was eating ts up back then. holy nostalgia
