Whumptober Day 8 : Non-Fatal Drowning
Fear moves faster than thought and Eddie reaches for the cruelest weapon he has.
"I don't love you, Buck! I don't want whatever this is that you keep trying to turn us into. If that's why you've stayed all these years, maybe you shouldn't have."
Buck doesn't move. His eyes remain fixed on him, and Eddie watches the hope in them go out with a hopelessness that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
"Okay," he says after a long moment. "Then get out."
Or:
Eddie lies about loving Buck and nearly loses the chance to tell him the truth when he can’t find a pulse, and every apology has to wait until he’s counted to thirty.

Summary
“Buck?”
Buck’s head snapped in the direction of the table. The table that the hostess just told Buck was his. His table. Buck’s table.
That also happened to be Eddie Diaz’s table.
“Eddie?”
The two stared at each other for a moment before Buck broke the silence. He moved to sit across from Eddie. “What are you doing here?”
Eddie’s eyebrow was furrowed. “I’m supposed to be on a date. Well, a blind date. What are you doing here?”
“Wait,” Buck held his hand up, as if manually pausing the conversation. “You too?”
“Me too, what?”
“You’re on a blind date too?”
Eddie squinted his eyes at him, as if trying to work something out in his mind. Suddenly his eyes went wide. “Buck, who set up your date?”
“Maddie did. It’s kinda crazy that we both had a blind date at the same time at the same place-“
“Buck.”
And just like that, the dam broke.
Eddie was his date. His blind date.

Summary
Theo grabs Eddie’s face and squishes his cheeks. “You have to take my tooth out. So the tooth fairy won't be sad.”
Through puckered lips, Eddie says, “Okay.”
“What?” Buck clicks his phone on to check the time. “It’s ten o’clock at night and you want to play back-alley surgeon on a four-year-old?”
Theo’s eyes are sparkling just at the idea.
“It’s hardly surgery,” Eddie says, reaching over to pat Buck placatingly on the chest.
or, Theo's tooth is loose, and Buck has a lot of feelings about that. Getting it out turns into a family affair.

Summary
He pushed Eddie’s arms above his head, pinning them down by the wrist with both of his hands. Eddie’s back arched up against the ground slightly to accommodate the new position, and unfortunately, he could feel his stomach begin to swirl, a low burn of arousal sneaking through.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. Buck’s knee was just too damn close is what it was, He had been a little pent up, too focused on the kids and Buck to give himself any time for special activities, and that was it.
That was the whole reason why his cock was stirring in his briefs as he blinked up at Buck, why his breath caught in his throat and his heart rate picked up so damn quick.
“Still think you’d win?” Buck asked, smug as he peered down at Eddie.

Summary
"Ready?" Eddie asks.
"Yep." Buck draws one knee up against his chest, always in the habit of sitting like a store mannequin that recently survived an earthquake. He seems to have just remembered that this movie is of the spooky variety, because he visibly steels himself before saying, "Let's do this."
Eddie hits play. Then he waits a perfectly respectable less than a minute before—very nonchalantly, he's just an average guy with limbs; he barely thinks about having arms, even places them down sometimes, it's whatever—re-draping his forearm across the back of the couch.
He bites down on a greedy smile when Buck copies the movement shortly thereafter.
Equally nonchalant, of course—all very normal. Eddie doesn't even feel like screaming into a throw pillow, on account of how normal this all is.
Or: Buck and Eddie's pinky fingers kiss before they do.
