Summary
Jamie gets up from where he’d slipped and fallen in the rain wet synthetic grass and tries again.
And again. Again. Again. And again.
Until the pain ebbs away and just numbness remains and he gets this weird disconnection from his suffering, like he’s really a star – hanging in the sky watching a hopeless boy running and he doesn’t quite know if he’s real anymore – maybe he’s never been.
But he has to be better. Has to shine and be good at the only thing he’s ever been decent at.
Because his mummy said it like a fact: Jamie Tartt, you’re a star. And he doesn’t have the heart to tell her he’s only the summation of his parts.

Summary
Sometimes, as the war dragged on and the bodies piled on and on, and Fox stood hight ontop of their unmoving corpses did he cling to the memory buried in his heart like a drowning man to a lifeline. Like the memory of the sound was the only thing keeping him afloat. The clear sound of the sun laughing kept him sane, kept him from getting pulled under the crashing waves.

“Should be,” Kim answers in his stead. Jean gives him a curt nod of gratitude.
“Great, you two can go on ahead then, we'll be right behind you. Just wanna make sure nothing important gets left behind.” There was always the chance someone left sensitive documents, or a whole gallon of fuel, maybe even a spare generator behind—and those are the kind of losses that add up.
Before he can move past them, Harry grabs his shoulder, a faraway look in his eye. “Don't stick around too long,” he says, eyes still clouded.
Jean tries to search Harry's face for an explanation, but his features aren't very forthcoming. “Harry what–”
As if snapping back to reality, Harry squeezes his shoulder even tighter. His face, now tight and drawn, expresses only concern, “I've got a bad feeling.” He says, like it's an explanation.

Jean feels lost and goes in search for something to do. He finds it down the muzzle of a gun.
You can usually measure how much I like a character by how much I make them suffer and I just lovelovelove Jean SO much. He never stood a chance.
