Deep down, part of him wondered if he should be more worried. He was in the back of the bus, alone, with a stranger, late at night. A scenario of nightmares, for most people. Himself included. Any other night he'd get off at the next stop, and order an Uber home.
But a larger part of him was intrigued. After all, Charles was good-looking, and seemed cordial enough. What was the worst that could happen? If Edwin wanted to leave, he could scream. Or run. Why not see what this stranger had in mind?

Summary
There was no denying that the little guy was adorable. The dragon was a light, minty green colour and was staring at Charles with big, silver eyes. Its wings as well as the small nubs of its horns, the spikes along its back, and the little, vaguely star-shaped club at the end of its tail shimmered slightly.
Most of all, however, it looked miserable. Sad and frightened in its much too small cage.
And Charles simply melted.
"Hey Edwin, wait a tick." He didn't wait to see if Edwin had even heard him before he crossed the room and sank to his knees in front of the cage. The creature inside was still eyeing him anxiously, scooting back in its enclosure as far as it could.
"Have you ever seen one of these before?"
"No. But I am certain that it will be well taken care of by someone who has, poor creature. Come now, Charles, I would like to get out of here."
"What if we take it with us?" The words left Charles' mouth before he could think them through.
When a case turns out to be not quite what they thought, Charles and Edwin come across an animal in need.

Today felt different. They'd been having sex for a little while now, and so far, most of the time it had been gentle, careful despite their eagerness to get at one another; they'd still been figuring out how they worked together, unsure how to be good for each other.
But now, as Edwin hastily clambered off Charles' lap and pulled him up and through their games closet into the adjacent room, there was no trace of that lingering insecurity. And Charles himself certainly didn't feel any when he grabbed Edwin's waist again and drew him in for a deep, filthy kiss.
Charles and Edwin spend a heady afternoon together, and Charles marvels at just how comfortable they have become with each other.
