Summary
Maddie, Daniel, and Evan. The three Buckley siblings... three? After three years of complete silence, Aubrey shows up at Evan's apartment in the middle of the night. She is exhausted and has clearly had a difficult few years, and now she is there to fulfill a promise Evan made 10 years ago. But Evan has changed a lot in the last 10 years, and even though he is happy to see Aubrey and help her, Aubrey doesn't know if the man in front of her is still the person that left all those years ago.

“Looks like I should’ve taken you with me after all, huh?” he said quietly.
“Yeah,” she whispered. “You should have.”
“But I didn’t.”
“You didn’t.”
Buck turned to look at her — really look at her. She looked older than she should. Not just in years, but in weight carried. In battles fought alone.
“And you hate me for it,” he said.
There was a pause.
Then, in a voice so soft he barely heard it, she said:

Summary
The sun was hidden behind the clouds, but that didn’t stop Evan. He ran out to the garage and pulled out Danny’s old bike to try and ride it. His parents were at work, Maddie was inside doing homework, and Danny was…well, he couldn’t remember where Danny was, he was pretty sure he was playing a video game. He had told Maddie and Daniel that he was gonna ride a bike, and they said he could, as long as one of them could see him from their spot in the house. Evan thought that was pretty fair, so here he was. He got onto the bike and tried to ride it, key word try. Dannys old bike didn’t have training wheels, which was hard, but he had to learn so he could ride his bike with Maddie and Danny! So he kept trying.

Buck stood on the porch, shivering beneath the thin hoodie clinging to his fever-slick skin. He wasn’t sure how long he’d been standing there, just that the familiar shape of Eddie’s front door had started to blur at the edges, his vision swimming from a mix of exhaustion and whatever virus had its claws sunk deep into him.
He had a key. Hell, he practically lived here. His toothbrush was in the bathroom, his favorite hoodie was always tossed somewhere in Chris’ room, and Eddie never stopped reminding him “You don’t knock. You walk in. This is your home too.”
