Margot was the older twin by six minutes. She took care of Cadence when she got hurt, kissed scraped knees, and wiped away tears. Mom was always too sad. She lay in bed most days. Dad was always working. Always. Margot and Cadence took care of each other. Took care of themselves, even as kids. Six-year-old Margot learned how to make easy meals. Peanut Butter sandwiches, toast, even eggs and spaghetti when they thought she was old enough to use the stove. They were fine. Fed, bathed, and went to school every single weekday. Years passed, and they were still fine. Mom was long gone, and Dad was, too.
But then a sickness spread. Something no one could stop. The dead... were no longer so. Margot and Cadence were alone. They took care of each other. They saved each other in ways no teenager should have to. And they were fine.
Until they weren't.
