It’s all heat and strength and that fizz below his skin that makes him feel like he might be losing his mind. They’re so close like this that for a second he actually thinks Buck might be about to kiss him.
Buck doesn’t say anything, just licks his lips, eyes trained on his mouth like he can’t meet his eye. Eddie waits a beat, then baits him, “Chain of command.”

“You fucked him,” Buck says, easy as two plus two.
“I mean—” and Eddie cuts himself off immediately. He doesn’t know if correcting Buck and saying he fucked me is the best course of action at this point.
Buck stares, almost hopeful, as if expecting Eddie to follow it up with a negative on the accusation. I mean, that’s not what happened or, I mean, that’s clearly lotion on the bed, dumbass. Buck stares and stares, and the hope withers and dies, and he finally lets out a short, disbelieving laugh that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Jesus, Eddie. So what— what, you fuck men now? Were you even gonna tell me?”
Or, Eddie sleeps with the Boston firefighter, and Buck takes it about as well as you'd expect. What's a little roughhousing between friends, anyway?

“So,” Buck says, head spinning. He’s really feeling the alcohol now. They definitely should have eaten something before drinking. “No women.”
Eddie fumbles as he sets the bottle down on his bedside table. “No women.”
“What about men?” Buck blurts, which is—crazy, because again: neither of them are gay.
They’re just two straight guys. Two straight guys in Eddie’s bed, tipsy, and—and Eddie doesn’t want to sleep with women. Which means nothing.
Beside him, Eddie goes preternaturally still. “I would know, if I—you know.”
“Okay.” Buck’s hands twitch at his sides. “I—yeah. Me too.”
Then, very seriously, Eddie turns to look at him. “If I were gay, you would be my first call.”
Warmth blooms in Buck’s chest. Eddie’s so nice to him. “Dude,” he says, touched. “You’d be my first call too.”

“Anyway … love ya, man," Buck says in the recording. "You’re my best friend.”
Oh, god. Eddie pulls Buck’s shirt up over his face and focuses on breathing through the fabric. Why are his earlobes tingling?
“Okay. I’m gonna send this now. Thanks for listening. Miss you. Bye.” Buck says this all very quickly, like he’s sprinting to the end of the message.
There’s a little noise indicating that the message is over, but Eddie just … sits. Just frozen. They’ve said I love you before, right? He can’t think of when, but they must have.
All it takes to get Buck and Eddie to talk about their feelings is 800 miles between them, a stolen couch, a fake boyfriend and a bunch of audio messages.

“You can’t eat my son’s frozen waffles because you’re high.”
“I’ll replace them before he gets home in the morning. He won’t know that the bad influence that sleeps on his couch stole his waffles because he had the munchies.”
Buck hears the toaster in the distance and smiles to himself.
“Good job, that was actually a coherent sentence. But, I’m pretty sure this was my idea, Buck.”
Oh. Eddie’s in front of him now. With water. What a genius.
“What?”
He drinks the full cup without taking a break. Some of the water starts coming out of the side of the cup and drips down his face. He’s just going to leave it, wipe it with his sleeve but he sets the cup down then Eddie unwraps his towel some while he covers the front of it with his hand. It slips enough that his thigh shows. Oh. He’s still wet there too. Eddie uses the end of the towel to wipe Buck’s face.
“Getting high, I mean. This was my idea. If anyone is the bad influence in this house then it’s his father. Not the weird guy that sleeps on the couch.”
Or: Best friends, Eddie and Buck, get high, watch friends and then fuck. There's also waffles.

Buck and Eddie are best friends who sleep together. This doesn’t strike Buck as strange … until he starts dating Tommy. Then he starts to get the feeling that maybe what he and Eddie have been doing for the last four years isn’t friendship at all … and maybe he’s completely fucked up his life without realizing it.
This is my rewrite of canon where they’ve been having sex since season 3 but just haven’t worked out that it means something, and also my own version of the 8B Buddie arc. I’m posting this two weeks before season 8 returns, so if I get anything right (why would I?) blame Apollo’s dodgeball.

"I think we should go clubbing again," Buck announces in between Forza races. "We have a Friday in the middle of our 96, it would be perfect."
"You guys planning something?" Hen asks, coming over from the kitchen with a bowl of trail mix.
"I'm trying to get Eddie to come pick up guys with me," Buck says.
Hen's eyebrows arch high above her glasses. "Really," Hen says.
"It's more of a wingman situation," Eddie tries to explain.
"Yeah, Eddie picks the guys so I don't make stupid decisions," Buck says, flicking through menus to pick a new racetrack.
The combination of Hen munching peanuts and looking back and forth between them makes Eddie feel like he's a zoo exhibit. Best Friends, captured in the wild, still feral, exhibiting behaviors heretofore unknown to science.
"Well, good luck with - all that," Hen says pointedly to Eddie. She is definitely not talking about the video game.

or, Eddie Diaz has never let himself be needy, not once in his life. But loving Buck makes him ache for touch in ways he can’t admit, until pulling away nearly breaks them both.
