Chapter Text
“We got it, Pittsie. We got it! Radio Free America!” Meeks exclaimed, excitement coursing through his veins as music replaced the noisy static. Unable to contain his glee, he started dancing to the beat of the music, not caring how awkward he looked.
Pitts laughed as he climbed down from the peak, joining his lover without hesitation. The two took turns with the headphones, goofily moving their bodies, trying to match the other when it wasn’t their turn with the headphones.
Eventually, the two boys tired themselves out dancing, dramatically throwing themselves onto the floor. Both boys were panting theatrically, and the sun’s bright, golden gleam was nothing compared to the joy both boys were radiating.
Meeks and Pitts were laying side by side, headphones on the floor above their heads as the music continued to play softly.
By chance, they turned to look at each other at the same time, neither of them able or cared to stifle the soft giggles that bursted from their chests. And in that position they stayed, two young lovers, staring at each other, their smiles lighting up the whole world.
“You’re brilliant,” Meeks said, knowing Pitts’ reddening cheek was not just from the sun.
“You’re so smart,” Pitts returned, smiling fondly at his lover.
Riding the high and the excitement, Meeks shifted a little closer. Noticing, Pitts grinned and did the same.
“Hi,” Meeks whispered.
“Hi,” Pitts replied, booping his nose.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“Please.”
The kiss never happened. Frantically, the boys scrambled apart as they heard footsteps coming up.
“Mr. Keating,” Pitts greeted, slightly nervous.
“Captain,” Meeks echoed numbly.
Mr. Keating didn't say anything, only raising an eyebrow.
“Science project,” Pitts choked out his go-to excuse as he spotted where the teacher’s eyes landed.
“Impressive work, sons,” the captain said, his voice betraying nothing, though his eyes shone with delight.
The boys couldn’t help but beam with pride.
“And stay safe,” he added with a wink, grinning amusedly at their agape mouths. Hearing the flustered boys floundering for a response, he smiled to himself as he turned and left.
