Penitent

Summary:

Avid took in the old air of Oakhurst, it was uncanny how familiar the feeling felt despite it being the first time his body ever stepped foot in the town.

He looked at his side. Elle was there with her face serious and prepared, her hands close to the silver sword inside a scabbard that was strapped to her waist. It probably wasn't best to bring a silver sword to Oakhurst, especially when there are two vampires in town who are easily threatened with one of them being extremely angry towards humans.

Not like Avid is technically human, he is, but not for long. Either by the scar on his neck or being saved by vampirism once again.

It isn't like Avid could argue that she shouldn't bring it. Because, first, it would be incredibly stupid of her to not to bring weapons — his own crossbow would be questioned. And second, she would be suspicious of him on why he even suggested to not bring one of their main protections, especially when he still hasn't brought up the issue of said creatures in Oakhurst being vampires...

Or, Avid wakes up. Months before everything came burning and crashing down. Everything changes, everything stays the same.

Notes:

I never thought I would write a fic for a Minecraft smp but here I am

this concept has been written by so many others and all of them r so good so I'm kinda nervous lol

Also fair warning I currently have only watched Avid and Scott's POV since my Wi-Fi sucks and I'm not using all my data to download more vsmp povs, I would watch Shelby and Owen's once my Wi-Fi gets fixed tho, anddd it's also been some time so I might get the lore wrong (fanfics have been my sole source information for like a month) so whoops, Ill rewatch some as I go and see as my already written chapters go up in non-canon compliant flames

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

ACT 1: A FAIR EXCHANGE

To live is to accept death.

To love is to accept death.

To be free is to accept death.

To achieve happiness is to accept death.

I tried to accept death, did all I can to love and be free. To finally be happy and not in a state of emptiness I had always felt.

And you were the last flame needed that lit my heart, so now tell me what can I do with a puzzle missing a piece?

A hearth, wood, and flame. Yet I am without one, so tell me, is there a way to reverse fate?

A way to light up what was turned into mere embers?

If so, then please, let me begin the exchange needed. All of us know we want it.

Another chance, one more chance.

Will our masquerade be enough to please you?

I ask you, give me— us, a chance.

A chance to return death.

For accepting death is not the only way to the path of true happiness.

Deep below a once magnificent castle lay a coffin, with a noble opening his eyes.

Deep below the ground the dirt reveals a man with blood still staining his hands.

Far away walk strangers, into a town haunted by the red river that stains its history and by the ghosts of a future never to be.

Something growls in delight, another chance it has been given.

Another whimpers in fear, terrified of what his tommorow may bring.

He blinks awake, a chance he will take.

Some breathe, determination in her footsteps.

In a town far, she runs for her new purpose.

One stands confused, unsure of where she stands.

The others are all the same, following the old strings of their fate.

Unless someone can cut it, replace their prophecies and bring forth light to their accursed lives.

Good luck.
