Summary
Jaskier sits under a tree by himself, separate from the group but not entirely out of sight. Geralt's chest suddenly feels tight, like some great weight is settled on him and making it hard to breathe. There's an ache where his heart is and he recognizes, belatedly, that it's guilt—guilt for what he'd shouted earlier, for pushing the bard away with his anger and harsh words.
He stands, uncertain, fighting with himself for a moment, then he closes his eyes and breathes in deeply, letting it out slowly, and makes his way over to Jaskier.

It’s just fucking. No emotions, no softness, definitely no chance of Jaskier being on top - Geralt nearly bit his hand off at the thought. But it hurts, to know how Geralt thinks of those who bend over for other men, and it hurts almost as much to know that he won’t ever get to treat Geralt how the noble witcher deserves to be treated.

“We can get there before the end of a week,” Geralt says, with confidence he doesn’t feel. He keeps his tone even. In better circumstances, they’d be there by the end of the night; if Geralt could simply hoist them up and run with them, he would.
That’s impossible, though, and he’s left only with frail reality. He wants to get them up the mountain in two more days, maybe two-and-a-half, to accommodate for breaks as often as Jaskier and Ciri may need. Without a doubt, Jaskier needs to be in a warm, dry bed in at least two days. It’d be better if he was there now, but now is impossible.
Jaskier nods firmly. He swipes at his face with the edge of his sleeve, exhales slowly again. “I can do that.”

A muscle twitches in the witcher’s jaw. He clears his throat. “We recently… reunited. He and I used to travel together.”
“And the moment I can get out of this storm, we will cease ‘traveling together’ once more,” Jaskier says bitterly. Traveling together. Ha. Geralt makes it sound like they were nothing more than acquaintances on the road.
To him, Jaskier supposes it was. Unfortunately, Jaskier’s own heart and mind never received the memo.
Nivellen raises his brows, glancing between them. “Ah. I’ve… prodded something, haven’t I?”
“There is nothing between us to prod. There never was,” Jaskier insists. “Continue your game. I rather enjoy watching Geralt lose.”

Or, Geralt had never called Jaskier a friend, not once in their twenty years traveling together. Now he returns to uproot Jaskier's life, Child Surprise in tow and mentions of an 'old friend' on his lips. It makes Jaskier want to scream.

When Geralt gets transferred to a new new base during the Afghanistan war, he doesn't think it will be any different from the last one. The point of the military is, after all, uniformity and the dehumanisation of the soldiers. However, after he gets assigned a new handler things take a slightly different turn.

“Are you alright?” Jaskier asks. He’s been dragged outside again during the middle of one of his sets. That’s fine. He was almost expecting it. Geralt has become a little bit predictable, and a bad mood usually means he’ll want a quick pick me up at some point.
“I will be in a moment,” Geralt growls, and he pushes Jaskier up against the wall.
And it's fine. Normal. New normal. Jaskier goes and he goes happily and willingly. But there’s something that is tugging on his mind, something that aches.
He doesn’t put his finger on it until afterwards. “You really will have to start being more patient. I do need to make a living – and you dragging me away in the middle of my songs all the time is bad for business.”
Geralt gives a chuckle, “you’re saving money on the whorehouses, are you not?”
And oh.
Geralt is using him for sex.
