The shift in the air is immediate—murmurs, restrained outrage, a spike of cold hostility that presses in from every side.
Phantom only smiles wider, lowering his head until his lips brush Tim’s ear. His whisper is a growl, a caress, a threat all in one. "Stand tall, little bird. Let them look… and know you are mine."

Summary
Spider-Man was everything that Peter Parker wanted to be. He was like a game of pretend and sometimes when the suit was on, he could pretend that nothing had changed. People recognized him with the suit, Spider-Man was remembered.
Peter Parker was not.
A little over a year had passed since his existence had been erased and he was building a life for himself. He was in his second semester of college, he had a job, his apartment could be worse. Things were okay. But still, he couldn't help but feel that he was existing outside of himself. He sometimes felt disconnected from his body and it only seemed to get worse when both new and old foes seem to be intent on taking him down, no matter the consequences.

It was a relief, then, when some random New Yorker was thrown into his living room through a portal straight out of some LSD daydream.

Because there’s always a goddamn cult.

“Totally! I’m fine, I’ll be fine. Definitely had worse, n-nothing Spider-Man can’t handle.”
“There is literally a hole in you, man… you sure?” Peter quickly raised a hand to press it firmly against his torso, both blocking the injury from the cameras and stemming the blood flow, which he could now feel dripping down his hip and leg. Ugh, so gross.
“Oh yeah, no biggie.” The vigilante pitched breathlessly.
