Problem is, there’s another thing he’s been waiting for for almost as long, and it’s sitting right next to Eddie, making little soft impressed noises at Gandalf’s fireworks, flashing quick smiles his way when he offers him the tub of greasy popcorn.

Eddie raises his watering eyes to the shop around her: the hanging tie-dyed tapestries and figurines of busty fairy girls in improbably ripped flower petal dresses, a dancing Lord Shiva exhibiting quite a bit more grace than Eddie had five seconds ago. He sees a velvet poster of some asshole prancing towards the edge of a cliff with THE FOOL printed in big letters at his feet, and thinks, yeah, tell me something I don’t know.
“I think…” he wheezes as soon as he can manage it, “I’m beyond helping.”

“Hey,” Steve manages, only managing to focus one brown eye on Eddie.
“Hey,” Eddie says, laughing softly. “Don’t wake up, baby, you look good like this.”
“No,” Steve says grouchily, though his thumb is now rubbing back and forth against the inside of Eddie’s wrist, gentle and fond. “We got work to do.”
“Thought I saw some tell-tale red envelopes on the kitchen counter,” Eddie says. It’s pretty serious. They’ve been working through some shlocky classic horror this month, and making impressive progress. Especially given how their speed is kind of hampered by having to wait a couple of days between Netflix DVDs getting mailed back and forth. “I’m gonna hop in the shower, okay? See how you feel when I get out.”
Steve makes a bitchy little noise that has absolutely no English translation, but he lets Eddie’s hand go, and resettles himself on the couch, tucking his face back into the pillow.Series
