Obito never knew how to properly grieve a dead loved one. So naturally, he goes off the deep end when Kakashi dies.

Madara eyes widened one sharingan spinning wildly, it was a trick, a lie, something other than what it was.
But it wasn't because there, carved into the mountain looking over the village was Hashirama, just like he said there would be. Others joined him, Tobirama among them, two others he didn’t know. The dying sun painted their faces warm yellows and reds. The village survived. Not only had his attack accomplished nothing but time had left him far behind.
Madara felt sick, unknown years had passed with him being none the wiser. Four Hokage had passed while he was dead. His village- no it wasn’t his. This village had continued on despite his damage and was now stronger than he ever thought it would be. His life wasted, his goals fruitless.
TLDR
After Madara dies to Hashirama he wakes up as planned however he woke up 50 years later than planned. Gets sidetracked and ends up becoming a mercenary trying to save the hidden leaf and adopting an unruly jinchuriki and a traumatized Itachi. -
