Summary
Avid’s throat felt raw from screaming, though he hadn’t been, not anymore, at least. His heart still felt as if it was home to a wooden stake. He felt the aching hunger, body still thinking he was dead, still thinking he needed to be healed.
But he didn’t.
Because he was alive. Avid was alive and he didn’t know how. He knew he was still a vampire, he could feel it in his very being, could feel the desperate hunger as if he’d never been satiated by a single drop of blood. But he was just outside of Oakhurst. An Oakhurst that was empty.
Empty and as though no one had ever stood foot in there, no sign of the people that had come to Oakhurst at the same moment as Avid.

Avid was alone, normally he would drag Drift or someone else to walk around with him, but that wasn’t the case here. And well.. Scott was getting hungry. The fact that Avid was a nuisance didn’t really matter, it was a prime opportunity, and Scott didn’t know when the next time would come to get a free meal.
He landed, shifting back into his normal form, “Hello.” He grinned,
Avid jumped, whirling his head around with panicked purple eyes, “W- how are you—”
Scott prowled a little closer, “I’m sure you can figure it out.” His grin widened, flashing his fangs.

Scott finds out Avid is dead. Not too long after, Scott gains his freedom. Now living in New York in 2006, Scott, Shelby, and Drift visit Avid’s grave every year while also stopping by to say hi to Cleo and Pearl. One year, Scott decides to pay a visit earlier by himself just to talk to Avid one on one. He had things left unsaid that he would like to get out, even if it’s to the empty air.
Except this time, the air isn’t empty.

This was supposed to be a crackfic of Avid serenading Scott, but the characters decided to derail from the plot and now it’s a serious chapter fic exploring Avid pretending to be human, constant denial of being a vampire (and feeling more than just hatred and repulsion for Scott), Haunted by his past trauma, and slowly overcoming his PTSD while also wrangling weird feelings
