It wasn't even a week into Jade Mountain Academy before something went wrong. And of course, Carnelian had to be in the crossfire.
Before she knew it she had stepped into the cave, glanced at two other figures she barely recognised. She distinctly remembered a wash of relief splash over her before it all went up in a white, searing pain.
Carnelian had no idea what had happened. Everything had gone black. Senses were devoid of anything. She couldn't smell the fresh air, or hear the chirping birds. Taste the minerals in every breath. All the pain. Gone. Everything seemed to freeze.

In this AU, a friendlier Winter was raised by Queens Glacier and Blaze, and his adventures at the Jade Mountain Academy are a lot more peaceful. He likes to spend time at the library, where he meets Kinkajou and Moonwatcher. He reads about previous IceWing royals, two of which turn out to be NightWing hybrids Whiteout, the gentler and more reserved of the pair, and Darkstalker, who inherited mind-reading, prophecy and Animus abilities. Winter reads about who these famous dragons were and how their story is very different, but in no way less tragic than in other, more familiar universes. And then prophecies and resurrections happen and all hell breaks loose. Probably.
(Also I often miss mistakes I've made, please don't comment about that, love you all 😭🫶)

Moonwatcher's life started rough. She was alone in the rainforest for a long time, spending her days hunting and avoiding Rainwings. She'd wait for her mother to return occasionally from the tunnel waiting from each visit for the next, hoping she could see her again. But one day that all changed. The Nightwings left the tunnel permanently all leaving for an ancient city that they used to inhabit. Apparently they were lead there by Starflight who just so happens to be her half-brother. From that point on things would never look down for Moonwatcher again. She was being taught to use her powers by her brother and she got to attend Jade Mountain.
Cricket hears her. The booming voice of the Queen that seems to infect everyone's minds but hers. The voice that echo's across every Hivewing whenever the Queen demands it. Cricket has terrible night terrors. One's that give her intense Deja Vu, warning her when dragons are about to enter the Hivemind. She lives' her life hiding from dragons she knows as they hunt Hivewings and Silkwings alike who disobey. She used to think she was blessed by Clearsight, but maybe she's cursed.
