For a surreal moment, the question is a fire alarm. Is McKay asking because Victoria told her that she doesn’t have a boyfriend? She knows she must not be much older than he is, but bristles at the thought; she finished the coursework he must be going through when she was twelve. She thinks of how he chewed on the bottom of his sweater string, like a little boy.
All Victoria wants is to prove she’s the same as any twenty-something third year med student, but she might have more in common with the teenaged 72-hour hold patient than she’s willing to admit.
