When he was burned and cast out into the unforgiving waters, he couldn't keep a lid on his emotions like he used to be able to.
So what is he meant to do when he accidentally triggers some sort of demonic possession buried deep inside of him, one that frightens even his uncle and changes everything he knew about himself, for better or for worse?
He runs away. From what, he doesn't know himself. But he knows that he can't stay on that ship.
After all, running off on his own is all Zuko's ever truly known how to do.
