Summary
Hybrids have been around for centuries no one knows where they came from or how they came to be, just one day they simply were there.
"My father wasn't the kindest man" Whitaker mumbled softly as he looked down at his hands. "All my brothers were made for the farm...then there I was...I was lucky if they even remembered my name" Whitaker mumbled softly with sorrow in his voice. "When I left them, I knew I could never go back."
"Do you regret it?" Robby asked softly. "No... if.. if I didn't leave, I'd have died on that farm" Whitaker confessed softly.

Summary
Later, he’ll hold their daughter up to the display case and let her pick out of its frosting-laden offerings, knowing that his mother would consider the piped-on flowers to be vanity. Would she have a cake of her own, today? Made by her own hands, most likely, or by one of his sisters-in-law, buttery and sweet with a topping of walnuts and brown sugar? He’s made it himself, almost-right, always missing something, but Hannah enjoys it. He brings the tray of it to work, nuts replaced in the batch with streusel, and leaves it in the break room. Grits his teeth against the sick feeling in his belly when the tray is empty at the end of the day, as if his people enjoying her favorite dessert, unbeknownst to her, can serve as a replacement for the confrontation they will never get to have.
(There is no closure to be found there, he will simply never understand. It's better that way.)

Summary

He can't do this. He really can't.
There was one week left of Dennis's rotation at the ER, and he was crying in the shower.
He tried everything. Talking himself out of this stupid workplace crush on his student, talking Dennis out of reciprocating it. And it all went to shit. They talked, and talked, and talked, he saw Dennis with a hickey and wanted to drown, then Dennis walked him home, kissed him, went upstairs. And now what? Now Robby was in love. Thanks. Great thanks to all that.
He needs a way out. Soon. He'll suffocate and drag Dennis down with him.
---Three months into dating Dennis, Robby starts to feel his avoidant panic mode kick in. Especially since Whitaker is almost done with his rotation at the ER. And especially since Robby realised he fell in love when he least expected it.
This is the sequel to my fic 'chameleon robinavitch', but now it's from Robby's perspective! Can be read independently.

"I won't rat you out to HR."
He joked, his eyes bright, but Robby pressed his lips together, looking at him.
"Maybe you should. I'm your attending. And I'm…way too old for you."
Dennis clicked his tongue.
"I fucked guys older than you."
Robby blinked, a soft exhale escaping him.
"What?"
"I said…" Dennis spoke slowly, clearly, even if his heart was beating out of his chest. "I fucked guys who were older than you."

Summary
Mel King just wants to be friends with all of her co-workers; she doesn't understand why Whitaker is trying so hard to close himself off, but she is determined to find out.
or:
Santos finally convinces Whitaker to go out clubbing with her and the girls, and he and Mel both find out why this is a terrible idea.
"She figured it best that she wait silently for him to open up.
She didn't think it would be in a dingy club bathroom.
She didn’t think it would take him until the last two weeks of his rotation in the ER to say something either.
Most people get sick of hiding secrets or deflecting when asked incessantly by a certain someone (Santos), but Whitaker held out until he physically couldn't anymore."

"Did you, like, make your own shoes?" Victoria inquires.
“Uh, no. We bought them like normal people,” Dennis says, taking a sip of his drink. “But mostly we went barefoot, especially in the summer, unless we were working. But my mom wore crocs.”
"Crocs?"
“Yeah. Dunno why, though. I think she liked putting them in sports mode.”
___
Dennis gets coerced into going to Girls' Night by Trinity. They use the opportunity to interrogate him on his religious life before he became a doctor. Nothing like getting held hostage by four women at a sports bar to round up an eighteen-hour hospital shift, right?...
