They both wore their bands on their chains—Robby’s with his Magen David and Jack’s with his dog tags. It made Dennis squirm, a little, to watch their interactions. He had a peek into their lives no one else seemed to have.
Christmas was approaching in the Pitt and Dennis already knew he wouldn't be celebrating. He dealt with enough at work given his inappropriate work crushes, familial guilt, and general want for the season to be over. Trinity refused to let him skip and so Dennis is pulled into the Secret Santa. Only problem? Dennis pulled half of the married couple who won't stop touching him.

Dennis had always been a crybaby. He was upset at the term at first, but it made sense when Momma and David called him that. He had always been David’s duckling, following him around the farm like David had made him himself, the surprise baby of the family.
But he was twenty-six, would be a full doctor soon, and he was still a crybaby. It was okay. It was also embarrassing, and his coworkers didn’t make fun of him for having a stupid pain response, but he was a crybaby. Okay, Trinity made fun of it, but she was basically his sister. She was supposed to make fun of it. Because that’s what siblings who didn’t think they were your daddy did. He made fun of her for pretending she hated them all, but then snuggled him on movie nights, and she made fun of him for crying when he got hurt.
Thing is though, as Dennis grew up, he learned that some people particularly… liked… when he was easy to make cry. He’s come to adore that just a little. He’s more of a slut than Trinity, and he liked when they could make him cry without too much pain, make fun of him for it… there was a lot he liked about being a crybaby, because it’s not really a bad thing.

Dennis's brain short circuits, his only response to the man's statement is a faint nodding of his head. Mike doesn't seem impressed by this as he stares at Dennis, eyebrow raised.
"I'm going to need you to use your words for me, pretty boy," he says in a sterner tone than moments before.
Or: Dennis Whitaker is down on his luck. He has nowhere to stay, no support from his family, and is having an overall pretty bad day. Dennis isn't sure what he's doing, but hopefully Michael can show him the way.

Summary
The truth of the matter is that Dennis isn't a sweet boy or a good guy. He's got a good heart, sure, and the world still hasn't stripped him of the kind of naivety you only maintain if you still believe in God. But no, he's not friendly (there's a reason why he and Santos are so close), and the only time he's sweet is if someone slaps him hard enough to make him dizzy.

A medical student graduating and becoming an intern is typically not something Robby celebrates. His gaggle of baby doctors, this particular, tight-knit group, who all miraculously didn’t quit after the hell that was the Pittfest shift, their first ever shift at PTMC, seems monumental, however.
Robby also may have a very Jack-shaped weakness, one that has gotten even worse after the aforementioned MCI shift.

Dennis Whitaker had been going to the roof at the end of his shift just watching the city play around him, feeling helpless as he looses more patients each week, each scrub change feeling more and more damming then funny, each day on the rooftop he steps closer and closer to the railing, mind numbing as ambulance sirens wail and cars drone pass he vaguely thinks how rude it would be to make his coworkers see his smashed body if he did ever did tip over, but he just thinks it.
till he walks up after a difficult shift that had him crying over a sink in the bathroom, when he sees Dr.Robby on the other side of the railing, Dr.Abbot leaning over and talking lowly to Robby, he freezes, cold air biting his skin, he sees the way Robby's body twitches with tears, he looks guilty at the private moment before turning around, and heading back down. pain was filling his chest, but seeing Dr.Robby on the other end of the railing made his heart skip a terrible beat.
that night he made Santos drive to the store, buying cooking stuff, he cant say hes good with emotions and words, but one thing his Ma on the farm had taught was cooking is one of the best healing medicines.
