Summary
He leans in close to whisper before she can say anything obvious aloud. “You were followed here. They’re watching you now.”
She registers that without any dramatic sign of surprise. You’d have to know her well, as well as he does, to recognise the way her breath grows thinner and her folded hands tense.

Summary
And what is it Erskin wants, anyway? Does he even know? Chandrilan society shouldn't be much more appealing to him than Mon and Perrin’s marriage is, he's seen both of them at their cruellest and coldest; but part of him’s still yearning. At least with Chandrila he has Mon to bring him into it and lift and support and shield him and make it something that feels worth belonging to. She’s always at her least scathing and critical of Chandrila’s traditions and customs when she’s explaining some part of them to Erskin, as if knowing how much Erskin longs for Chandrila despite all its flaws makes her view it more kindly herself.
There’s the grain of a thought there. Something to come back to, perhaps.
An unexpected visit from ISB leads to a few revealing conversations.

Summary
He won’t have to do anything like that again, she thinks but doesn’t say. She can’t promise him that. And perhaps that isn’t why he’s telling her anyway; she can’t determine how much it’s absolution he wants and how much it’s approval. She remembers Luthen telling her he’s protected you in ways you’ll never know and wonders what else Erskin would tell her if she asked.
On Yavin, in the aftermath of betrayal.

Summary
She can’t seem to look away from the statue; it compels her. “There’s a legend that these are the priestesses themselves, you know. They gave up everything that made them living beings so that Chandrila could be guarded by metal and stone.”
“Quite a sacrifice.” Not that it had helped: the Rakatan Empire gnawed through the planet all the same. He doesn’t say this part out loud, but she looks at him as though she knows it anyway and has resigned herself to facing it.

Summary
Erskin watches him for a while from the comfort of a too-deep armchair that he’s possibly a little too drunk to get out of with dignity. Perrin’s relating some anecdote about an inauguration banquet thrown by a long-gone senator, expertly spinning out the saga to a growing and enraptured audience. You could drift away like this, carried off by the warm, heady currents of Perrin on form.
It’s late by the time they leave. Perrin hauls him up to his feet, laughing - “Can’t stay out all night or she’ll think I’m leading you astray” - and Erskin looks down at the hand wrapped around his own forearm and feels somehow favoured, a curl of smug pride and satisfaction he shouldn’t know.
Erskin goes out to a party with Perrin, and learns that the dynamics of Mon and Perrin's marriage do not get any clearer when you can view them from both sides.

Summary
“Being Chandrilan is really more of a state of mind,” Perrin says. “It’s not about memorising all these days and these ceremonies and these histories, who cares, it’s learning to live in the spaces between them.” He shifts himself around so he’s almost lying beside the two of them, his blue robes pooled on the bed the brightest colours in the room.
“Perrin,” she says. A warning, a request - she can’t even tell herself.
A Chandrilan cultural festival, and Mon has had enough.

Summary
Her office is the exception, though only in slight and small ways. No words spoken aloud there and no touch beyond the briefest and lightest in passing: her palm curved around the shape of his hip, or the way he’ll catch her arm at the elbow when she passes him something and trace a slow line down her forearm to her hand before taking it. There are a hundred ways to touch someone, a hundred ways to promise in silence: later.
A little after s2e03, with Tay Kolma gone in one sense and Leida gone in another, Mon Mothma reflects on what she still has.
(or: what if your work husband was the illegitimate son of your actual husband and you were also dealing with the emotional fallout of marrying your child bride daughter to a mobster family to fund a rebellion and now Luthen's asking a few too many questions about whether your aide can be trusted.)

Summary
Your father’s variety of betrayal once seemed to you rather romantic. To break from the constraints of an arranged Chandrilan marriage, to conceive a child for love alone - such a wonderful story that brought you into existence, wasn't it? Surely one worth at least some of the weight you’d had to drag around of its consequences. It was only in later years that you came to see the tarnished and tawdry reality of it all, the disappointment that your father really was.
It’s not, of course, that you fear you carry some taint of his betrayal with you as if such things can be inherited. Nobody believes that - certainly not on civilised Chandrila. Perhaps you are simply more attuned to your own weakness. Perhaps, through the result of your own heritage, you have been given a conveniently sharp reminder to dig into you like your nails into the meat of your palm: don’t romanticise this. Don’t be stupid. There are no grand love stories here - you’re a starstruck boy with a crush. You’re thankful she was kind to you, that’s all of it. You respect her. It will pass.
