Oscar flinched, heart thundering in his chest as he whipped around to face the source of the voice- for a brief moment, he saw a girl with black hair and a bright white cape- and then he blinked, and the white cape was replaced with a tattered crimson one.
That had been happening more and more lately.
Visions.
Memories from past lives seeping through into this one.
Just last week he'd almost had a heart attack because he'd thought he'd seen James standing in the headmasters office, but when he'd doubled back he'd found the place empty.According to Ozpin, past memories seeping into the present was normal, but it was extremely heightened in his case- he hypothesised it was something to do with trauma and anxiety.
Ruby- not Summer, not Qrow, not anyone from a past that wasn't his own- stood there, looking worried.

He lost his balance, and he wasn't sure if the feeling he felt was the feeling of his body lurching as he fell- or the feeling of his heart plummeting as he looked up into the eyes of a man who had once been his friend.They were cold and dark- the light that had once twinkled within them completely gone.

Oscar Pine falls out of the Atlas vault after being shot off by Ironwood. He wakes up in the vault- except it's the wrong vault. He finds himself at the Beacon vault next to dying Amber in her glass coffin just before the fall of Beacon.
This is a time travel story that begins with Oscar getting yeeted back in time and Oz has to figure out what to do with the traumatized child that will one day share his curse.
Oscar learns that he hates time travel as he slowly delves into insanity after non-stop existential crises. If Oscar really went back in time, what's to stop him from time-traveling again? Will anything ever make sense? Basically, Oscar trying to unite humanity while constantly traveling through time. (Not a fix it fic)

aka The Salem-raises-Oscar AU that no one asked for and exists only to hurt people.
The Premise:
Due to some sort of time-travel or prophetic shenanigans, Salem takes Oscar knowing that he’ll be Ozpin’s next incarnation.
There’s no point in killing Oscar; Oz will simply jump to some other person’s body if Oscar’s is unavailable. But if she can turn Oscar, then Oz will have to live in a body whose host fights him at every turn, and that will make things much, much easier for her during that window of opportunity.
(Failing that, she’ll simply keep the boy close and cripple him once Oz jumps in—maybe wreck a leg, chop off an arm, whatever it takes to keep Oz weak for an extended period of time. She stands to lose little, and gain a great deal.)Series
