The streets wear the grooves of every shoe, every foot, every hoof that has hit them, the houses creak with lives past and present, every corner of the city is awash with people, each going to work and living and paying you no mind; the church bells toll and promise that one day you, too, will haunt London.
This means that death walks quite unnoticed these days. He gets you a drink at the bar, she asks you for one more dance, they ride in the back of your carriage, they pass you on the way to work. She lets her hair down in alleyway, because the stupid fucking bobby pin keeps poking her ear and she just might bite the next person who speaks to her if she doesn't fix it right now.

Generations pass before he is invited back to Headquarters, and it is in the years that follow where the undead fellow meets an old friend who had grown up and become far more dangerous, though no less entertaining.
