Mer McKay sat on a bench, nauseous with first-date nerves. John wasn’t late, yet, but it was one minute to, and he wasn’t there, and Mer had been waiting for ages.
This is the sequel to Awakenings, which saw John Sheppard falling for Mer McKay (“Hi, Mer McKay, PhD, PhD, autistic, genius, gender ambivalent, queer and kinky as fuck, compulsive over-sharer”) and exploring his submissive side. It all went very wrong in series of random events that started with John lashing out at Mer after a traumatic play-date with a creepy Dom and ended with Mer getting kidnapped by the wraith, helping them attack Earth, and near-fatally stabbing John while brainwashed. This parted our lovers while they both recovered, and Evan Lorne and Ronon Dex picked up the pieces of John. The fic ended 18 months later, with John going on a date with Mer, who had returned to Atlantis. This story picks up exactly where Awakenings left off, only now it’s from Mer’s POV.
