Thankfully, Addison finally speaks once more and drags Kate from the thoughts raging in her mind. “We leave tomorrow afternoon.”
Taking a deep breath in, Kate slowly exhales through her nose, nodding once and bypassing the two in the living room as she heads for the door and leaves without a word.
Starting her car, she lays her head back on the headrest and closes her eyes for several minutes as she struggles to calm her trembling nerves, willing her tense muscles to loosen and relax - the other part of her geared up for a fight the entire time she spoke with Jacob.
“Fuck me!” She slurs, head in her hands, words muffled. “What have I agreed to?”

Summary
Kate learns fairly quickly she does not like going out to the bars with the boys. For one, they are loud and she can never hear Richie and Seth's conversations. Two, she can't drink, the boys simply refuse to buy her anything and if she happens to get one (through her fake ID) they simply take it from her and down it themselves. And three, they are always crowded, and although it makes it easier to hide in, Kate is small and she always gets pushed around no matter whose arm is around her. (They also make her extremely claustrophobic, but she'd never openly admit that.) So instead, she stays at the motel, in peace and quiet, and enjoys her evenings alone while the boys venture out.

A short drabble I wrote years ago as a first chapter for an AU where Kate never went with Scott and Jacob to Mexico. Everything else that happens at the Twister is still canon - she just wasn't there for some of it. Instead, Kate learns about Culebras and the Geckos while trying to investigate her family's disappearance. Her investigation - and Ranger Gonzales - eventually lead her to the hottest little truckstop in Texas - Jacknife Jed's.
Maybe I'll continue it one day (probably not) but wanted it out into the world anyways as I try to get back into writing in general. :3

She knows she’ll never be the one to pull Seth from this hole he dug himself into, but if he won’t do it himself she can at least find someone to do it for him.
Sonja and Kate should get along, and in a perfect world they might have, but they both learned long ago the world is far from perfect. It's a miracle Kate didn't snap sooner.

“Yeah. Kate.” She says the name with a hard edge, nearly clipping the first syllable. Seth frowns, flashes of Kate’s crossed arms and hard jaw outside the door playing through his memory. “After the way you talked about her, I was expecting someone... older.” She says the words almost carefully, pushing forward until she rests her elbows on her knees.
“Oh?” His arms cross over his chest, body going loose and tense all at once.
