When the funeral concluded at last, it was just him and Melinda and Robin in the empty room. The chairs had all been put away. They sat huddled together on the floor, staring out into space, Robin on Melinda’s lap and Melinda’s head on Phil’s shoulder.
“That star’s Daisy,” Melinda said, suddenly, pointing at the tail of the Little Dipper, still recognizable from the Lighthouse. Her eyes were dry by then, but Phil’s shirt was still soaking wet, and there were still tracks of salt down her cheeks. “She’s our North Star. She’s home.”Can be read as a standalone.
