Sometimes, in the morning or after a quick shower, he would linger at the mirror, lightly tracing the letters of Salem's name, black and sharp along his collarbone. Once in a while, the mark would flare with a burning pain that lasted days, throbbing, distracting. It was inconvenient, but as it was likely to be a sign of Salem's frustration, then at least something somewhere was going right.
