Emotions which she hadn’t even known were pent up inside her suddenly erupted, a dam broken open, and she would have screamed and cried and beat her fists against him, but the astonishment was so strong that she was utterly rooted to the spot, her vision going blurry with tears. She felt herself recoil in shock as she gazed into those eyes – eyes that should not have been there, fingers that gripped her shoulders when they should have been pale and bloodied without nails, cheeks full and healthy when they should have been sallow and gaunt.

The second it slipped, JB froze, like he wanted to grab it back, but JJ didn’t give him the chance. He stopped cold. Hands curled.
“What the fuck does that mean?”

Breaking one was all it took, and the rest went with it.
