    “You didn’t tell him?”
    “Tell me what? Wylan...?”
“Everyone meet our insurance, Wylan Van Eck.”

/or the Van Eck name reveal because everyone portrays Wylan as a crybaby and I'm kinda getting sick of it. also, I already read all of them and I desperately need more.

Robby didn’t take the bait, “I want you to stop pretending you’re fine when you clearly aren’t.”

That landed harder than Dennis expected. He didn’t respond right away, mostly because he didn’t have a good comeback for that one. And because the way Robby said it, low and direct and looking right at him, did something irritating to Dennis’s pulse.

Dennis huffed softly but didn’t fight him, mostly because the dizziness still hadn’t completely settled, a clear indication of head trauma, and the idea of moving too quickly sounded like a terrible plan. He tried to sit still while Robby worked, though the close proximity made him uncomfortably aware of just how serious Robby suddenly looked. Did he always look this way during cases? Robby was close enough that Dennis could feel the faint warmth of him, could smell the mix of leather. And for one brief absurd second Dennis wondered if he was imagining how close Robby actually was.

    Or

Dennis Whitaker gets hit by a car while riding a bike. He tries to tough out his injuries after the crash, only to find himself back at the Pitt injured, stubborn, and with Robby watching far too closely.

    Lucky.
The word snagged in his chest.
He’d heard it a lot lately. Lucky the bolt hadn’t stopped his heart for good. Lucky the damage hadn’t been worse. Lucky to be back.
He wasn’t sure it was luck.
It felt more like a clerical error.

    OR

He had died. Three minutes. And he doesn't know how to deal with that.
Buck had been back with 118 for a month now and he still doesn't feel readjusted. He doesn't feel real, it's like he is an imposter in his own life - watching life happened to him through a wall of glass.

    Summary

Dennis lays in the bed with a stillness so absolute it feels staged. A ventilator breathes for him in measured sighs, the sound too rhythmic to be human. It almost looks like he’s a kid pretending to sleep in the backseat of his parents’ car, hoping to be carried inside by strong paternal arms.

Robby would do anything for that to be the case. Instead, it is sedation that has smoothed away the sharpness from Dennis’s features.

It is a heart attack that has made him so still.

    Or,

Dennis Whitaker fails to clear and gets shocked by a defibrillator. He takes it as a punishment for sinful eyes that can't seem to look away from Dr. Robby and decides not to tell anyone. The ER keeps moving, but Dennis's heart doesn't. It terribly, horribly doesn't.
