It was far too much, and all in the span of less than a couple of seconds. D’s heartbeat thudded through her like a war drum, fierce and demanding, rivaled only by the harsh, rapid draw of her lungs.
Fuck, fuck—Veda was so close. What if D fucked up? What if she tried to kiss her?
AU of an AU: instead of leaning into Veda's touch during the events of Sacrosanct D panics, headbutting Veda and running away instead. The fic starts off much the same until that point, wherein it diverges.

Summary
Veda/D AU for my party’s dnd campaign, Heirs of Despair. Goes down two routes: one where D doesn’t flinch away from Veda’s touch, and another where she does.
Veda is my half-elf life cleric, who serves her patron saint ON, and devotedly worships the Goddess. Growing up in complete isolation, she’s overtly careful with her actions, earnest and old-fashioned, overjoyed to finally have people she can talk to and friends to love.
D is my friend’s tiefling warlock, who sold her own soul to the demon that now resides in her head in return for her magic powers. Growing up abused and ostracized, she’s adopted a sense of paranoid cynicism that of which now colors her every interaction.

**COMPLETE**
Rebecca Owens started her job at River Fields Mortuary under the impression that it would be a normal job. However, after being thrown headfirst into a world of demons by her enigmatic boss, Raymond Delver, she realizes that this job was never normal. After letting out the demon in the basement, Rebecca must decide whether she wants to continue working at the mortuary or leave it all behind. Little does she know that the man who employs her is bound to hell in ways she could never imagine.This is set after the sixth ending of The Mortuary Assistant and proceeds from there, almost as if it were a sequel game. So expect shenanigans and lots of lore and demons. Also, Zoey - I felt like she deserved to be more of a character, since we get so little of her in the game!
It is worth mentioning that the themes in the tags don't always go into explicit detail. I've tried hard to make this a good read, without being gratuitous in potentially triggering themes. This is a psychological horror more than anything, but I would rather overtag than potentially trigger anyone!
