“Just don't laugh.”
“I won't laugh,” Amber promised.
Of course, Amber already knew better than to laugh. She wouldn't laugh at anyone for being true to their feelings – least of all Eula, who endured so much difficulty to express them to begin with.
“Promise?” Eula asked, so Amber promised again, saying the words outright. With that out of the way, some of Eula's usual strength and poise returned to her voice, “I read about this in a book once.”
Amber received no time, not even a second or a fraction of one, to ponder that statement before Eula leaned in. She wriggled an arm beneath Amber's bottom shoulder in the same motion, as both a cushion and a means to prop themselves up.
The kiss was insistent, but not hard.
