“A shapeshifter.”
Sara has to suppress a smile at Sharpe’s deadpan tone. “And right here in D.C. too,” Sara replies while rocking back and forth in her chair for a moment. She’s excited about this case.
“Oh well, that’s different then.” Across the desk, Sharpe leans back in her own chair and purses her lips. “That makes it all much more believable of course. I guess I’ll have to eat my words when I see our suspect ‘wolf out’ right here on the National Mall.”
The corners of Sara’s mouth twitch up again. “Don’t be silly, Sharpe,” she says, her voice low and playful, “It’s not that kind of shapeshifter. This one appears fully human – except for the fact that they can completely alter their appearance of course.”

Ava smiles wryly. For seven years, she has been an exemplary agent: top of her class at Quantico, stellar performance reviews from every field office she ever worked at. She doesn’t understand how Director Hunter could do this to her, how he could stick her in this dead-end unit with the Bureau’s pariah. Ava clenches her jaw. Then again, she knows exactly why Hunter did what he did – but it’s no use dwelling on that now. Instead, Ava gets straight to the point.

Slowly she crept across the living room and rested her hand on the latch on the door. She opened it a sliver, blinking slightly at the sight of her husband's business partner– Miss Babcock– shifting from foot to foot impatiently. Suddenly, their eyes met and Fran felt as if she couldn't breathe.
It made no sense for the woman to be here, to be dressed in her damned slacks, damned dress shirt– But before she knew it, Fran's hands had wound around the burgundy tie that adorned the woman's neck, pulling her in, shutting the door, pressing cold lips fervently against her own.
On what should've been a normal Sunday in October of 1962, turns out to to be the day to upend Fran Sheffield's life as she knows it. But, as most things do, it starts slowly.
