(This is the old version of the story. It's being rewritten, as my writing style has changed considerably!)
When a knight of Astora fell at the claws of the Asylum Demon, he resigned himself to his own death and waited for the Hollowing to take hold of his mind and soul.
The last Undead he had freed before his defeat however refused to let him fade away into obscurity.A retelling of Dark Souls, following the path walked by Idris, a forgotten knight locked away in the Undead Asylum, before being given a second chance.

Everything seems the same, but nothing really is if you look hard enough.
The world is corrupted by an anomalous factor, a "paradox"; it seeps deep into the fabric of the universe, giving a certain flower and, later on, a human child a fascination for messing with the timeline and repeating genocide runs, in different little ways, over and over.
Stuck in a cycle of resets and reloads, unable to do much to fight back, Sans is just going along with the flow, waiting for Flowey to get bored and reset, mess with him, do whatever. Summary
When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.

Summary
Going through the report has his brain gears steaming. It's a lot. Logs of vessel depth, design and composition (iron mostly, with the other metal trappings of a human design with electrical cables), radiation output and source (x-ray and a buttload of it!), readings and scans of the biomass enveloping the vessel (a tree, of all things). More blood readings because the thing was utterly flooded with the stuff (same composition as the sample he coughed out, lovely to know and think about), and the final logs of the containment and quarantining of the vessel inside the Blip-A.
The team was coming back home to Erid, and in double time. Because Grace gets to the important part of the report. Perhaps the single most important one since he arrived on Erid.
They found another human inside the vessel.

"The man in the airlock was too conscious.
Well, “man” might not be accurate, Ryland Grace thought as he tried to ignore the screams, his fingers shaking over the keyboards as erratically as his gaze jittering between readout screens. Big red letters announcing “DANGEROUS CONTAMINATION” flashed on half of them. He chanced another look through the tiny airlock window, where the humanoid covered in a red, blood-like substance rolled around on the floor writhing in pain. He hadn’t been writhing when they found him: he hadn’t been anything when they picked up the abnormal shape drifting in the Patrova line on their way to Erid."Ryland Grace has never been great at making friends. Now that he has a mutated, traumatized, and possibly insane man in the Hail Mary's quarantine room, he wishes he would have practiced more. Rocky wishes they'd ejected the monster out of the airlock.

Through a bunch of coincidences and the author pulling many worldbuilding strings, the Hail Mary picks up a faint distress signal and goes to investigate. When it does, what should it find but an ocean of blood on a tiny moon drifting in a starless void.
