“Nice move, Kacchan,” Deku heaves, sweat dripping down the curve of his neck, soaking his white shirt and exposing the expanse of skin under. At the endless ripples of muscles beneath the wet fabric, Katsuki swallows—

In a nutshell, Izuku is a late bloomer, and Katsuki's not prepared for the nerd to start galloping that growth spurt like a carnivorous plant.
On growing up together then apart, falling in love over telephone lines and being home for the holidays. The new year comes, Izuku leaves, and Katsuki stays behind.

It’s Valentine's Day in Aldera Junior High. Or might as well call it for what it is: Judgement Day.
Truly just a cruel game of popularity that Izuku will never not be the loser in. The number of chocolates and gifts he receives makes it clear how many people like him: none. The only consolation Izuku has is that Kacchan never receives any chocolates on Valentine’s Day either.

Kacchan was his first everything. His first love, first kiss, first time, first date and first heartbreak. It didn't matter if he tore Izuku's heart to shreds or left it on the battlefield ground, flailing and shattered, he was always going to choose Kacchan. He would tear himself apart over and over again just for the chance to try again at loving him. Because he was going to get it right.

And it’s finally quiet, in the hospital. Dark enough without the overhead lights that the entire wing feels calm and his body doesn’t twitch uncomfortably at the constant surveillance he’s under during the day. It’s quiet, and he’s alone.
Every day that he’s been out of surgery, that’s about the moment Izuku shows up.
He’s less and less unprepared for the sound of his door being opened at this hour, the mechanical click from the handle and the heavy, low squeak of the panel shifting slowly ajar. It’s been about a week, now. Even the first time, Katsuki had a hard time feeling the shock he tells himself he maybe should have.
Instead, like every other time, he feels relief.
