Okay, so after posting the initial 800 word ficlet, I started working on getting this much longer piece formatted. As of right now, it’s stand alone, but I’ve got so much rolling in my head with this AU that there very possibly might be more… would y’all be interested in that?

Summary
Recently creatureXIII posted a commission over on the BlueButterfly social they’d done for tngnts and it altered my brain chemistry. Like, created a whole damn Mafia AU that I had to get out. So much so that I put together not just this one lil ficlet, but another 7k+ fic that is open-ended and will likely turn into more with proper editing. So, I suppose, enjoy the teaser for the Ghoap Mafia AU that has landed in my brain.

Could be A/B/O… could just be the boys.. one gifts the other with a BuildABear with one of those voice recordings. Gift giver goes MIA, presumed KIA and it’s all the receiver has left of them. And they’re gone long enough that it’s the only way they can clearly remember the voice…
Additional whump - voice box dies/gets destroyed somehow and receiver is just wrecked over it.

Summary
An alternate first meeting, where Ghost and Soap meet each other in the field under infinitely worse circumstances than either of them would have liked:
Ghost wakes up in a pit under a building with a bomb attached to him, certain he's going to die. Soap, an EOD tech amongst his other specialties, is the only person available to at least try to save him. It should be fraught, and tense, and miserable all around, and it is; a whole lot of Ghost slowly losing his mind while Soap does everything he can to save his life. But it would probably be easier if Ghost wasn't a stress-flirter, and if Soap wasn't the kind of endlessly competent that he loved, and if, by virtue of their situation, they didn't keep ripping open each other's wounds and then patching each other back up again after.

One of the best AU telling of Soap joining the 141 - amazing characterization of each canon lead as well as the OC used in the bg as filler/non-canon ties.

On the 21st November 2023, Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish was killed in action in the Eurotunnel, 7km off the coast of Folkestone.
Except the heavily redacted report is all a lie and the emotional scattering of his ashes is all an act.
This is the story of how he survives, how the 141 fake his death, and how he recovers - with Ghost right by his side.
A realistic fic about Soap recovering from a traumatic brain injury and discovering which parts of himself are left, and which parts Makarov stole from him. Full of hurt and comfort, angst and humour, this is a slow burn Ghost/Soap getting together fic with a happy ending.

Just such an original and well done take on post MW3. Honest and painful, but with such a satisfying ending and sooooo worth the hurt. Some of the best done ‘injury recovery’ I’ve read in a fic and beautiful work handling the cognitive damage and healing.

“They say the Ghost has no heart,” the soldier says, casual like he’s just come back from an evening stroll instead of a torture session. Without breaking eye contact, he taps the tip of his knife, still wet with Johnny’s blood, against the one-way glass, leaving behind a smear of crimson. “But I do not think that is true. I think I have found the Ghost’s heart, and I have strung it up like meat from butcher. Right. There.”
The man smiles, close-lipped and unassuming, and that disturbs Ghost more than any grin with too many sharp teeth ever will.
“It is pretty heart. Very pretty. But like butcher, I will carve it up in front of you if you do not tell me what I want to know."

When coming out to the Voyageurs leaves him wondering what his future in Montreal might look like, he lets himself be a little selfish, he lets himself wonder if there might be somewhere else he might be happy. If Montreal wants to get rid of a generational player, he's not about to stop them, especially if it means he can get a little closer to joy.
