    After a win against the Metros, the Centaurs go to the club. But after a hit on the ice leaves Ilya bruised and Shane pissed off, Ilya decides alcohol and a cigarette are the only cure for the silent treatment. One drunk man’s snide comment later, and Shane has to save punch-drunk Ilya from a PR disaster. Now the only thing left to get Shane to talk to him are the creative ways Ilya plans to apologize.

    Ilya Rozanov just survived a near plane crash and is now engaged to Shane Hollander; he's really feeling the love. He's just sad that other people aren't. He's a man on a mission, trying to bring romance, or at least some sexy times, to his old friend Cliff Marlow and to the Centaur's new rookie, Luca Haas. Will his meddling get them what they need? Or will he create something rather unexpected from it?

    Luca Haas is gay, in theory, but not very much in practice. Some hand stuff, some oral stuff... he just finds it hard to find someone he trusts to go all the way. He's got a bit of a problem, too, mooning over older men who are constantly inaccessible to him.

    Will a one-off encounter at a club lead to something more in the future? Or will it just be awkward encounters forever after?

    “This will not be easy,” Ilya warned, absently touching Shane’s freckles as he always did when he was particularly stressed. “My brother didn’t name me as a guardian, and Russia will not be too happy to give one of their citizens over to someone who famously married another man.” He let his head fall back against the headboard. “And the media will be insufferable.”

    Shane nodded. Yes, this entire situation would be a fight…and, even if they won, this little girl may not be pleased to go with them.

    “And if she stays with Polina?” he asked cautiously. “What would that mean for her?”

    Ilya wrinkled his nose. “Nothing good,” he finally admitted.

    When Shane and Ilya pictured kids they did not necessarily imagine fighting all of Russia to get custody of Ilya’s recently orphaned niece, who is traumatized, prickly, and raised by the laws of her country. Alas, neither Ilya nor Shane could be accused of doing things the easy way.

    “But…” Ilya stalls out. He conjures his sun’s face: the soft curve of skin where the corner of his eye becomes the sweep of his cheekbone, the stubble that clings to the soft end of his chin, the strong and even line of his eyebrows. “Solnyshko,” Ilya says. “It means sun, yes, but… it’s like a pet name. Sunshine. Honey. I’m calling you my sun.”

    This is mortifying in English. Christ, he should never have started this conversation. He should have shaken Shane off when he had the chance. Even as Ilya thinks this, he knows he could not have done it. He cannot deny Shanyshko anything. That has always been the problem between them. What a terrifying, awesome, horrible problem to have. Ilya would like to have this problem for the rest of his life.
