"Hey, Adrian.” Chris coughs, the feeling of his heart pounding against his chest kind of freaking him out. But if he doesn’t say something now, he might not ever. “Do you like me?"
“Duh, you’re my best friend, dude.” Adrian doesn’t even look at Chris when he asks the question “We’ve been over this before."
“No, no, not like that,” Chris says, groaning and rolling his eyes. Why can’t Adrian just know what he means? “I mean, like, do you like me, romantically?”

Summary
Lately, Chris has been making an effort to be nicer to Adrian. After being blindsided with how badly he’d hurt him with his choices, he knew that he needed to be better. Adrian deserves to have a better friend in him, and Chris was still harbouring a fair amount of guilt for what he’d done. So he’d been making the effort, and hanging out with Adrian more often.
He still has his moments, where he’s mean without even thinking about it, but there’s a balance now, and Chris thinks that's definitely an improvement.

Summary
Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.
