Summary
When Amy leaves New York, Frank gives her a burner phone with his number in it for emergencies. Starting over in Clearwater, Florida, she decides to use it as a way to share her new, normal life with the person who helped her get it — but when months pass and her messages keep being ignored, the rift between her and Frank growing bigger without her knowing why, she can't help but wonder if what she thought was a deep connection and a start of something good had in fact been just another adult in her life who made her promises they never intended to keep.

Summary
Steve got the call at around 3pm. The secretary had said Dustin Henderson needed to be picked up from the high school immediately. She told him that the kid’s mother wasn’t available, and he was next on the emergency contact list. When Steve asked why Dustin needed to be picked up, the lady had only said there was an ‘incident’, one that involved paperwork and needed signatures. Just by that, Steve knew exactly what had happened and exactly who it involved.

Frank stutters to his feet, swaying like he’s six gins in, but he doesn’t have time for that goddamn shit right now. He starts to move, and his vision is still narrowed, a horse close to spooking. Except he’s spooked. He’s goddamn spooked. His heart is bleeding out his ears.Frank knows he has to get there, and he starts climbing down, and what he wouldn’t give for that parkouring asshole to be here right now, so he could get to the island in seconds instead of the unearthly amount of time it’s gonna take him. He hates this congested city, and all the fucking people everywhere, and he’s moving faster than he has in a long time.
Everyone is running and crying and recovering, and he slams through the emergency door in the station and sets off the alarm. It bangs around in his head and sets his thoughts on fire worse than they already were.
He watches him drop. Over and over again, like a doll hitting the floor.

She shrugged. “I’m still here.”
It was a cold reminder to him that he also was still here, despite his efforts. He looked her over. The wind whipped her hair across her frost-reddened cheeks and easy-going smile. Strings tightened in his chest.

Summary
Amy drew in a shaky breath at the same time Frank released his. So much was left unsaid between them, and Matt couldn't help but wrack his brain about the why of it all. What happened to create this strange, unexpected bond? Why did it feel like stepping on broken glass? They cared for one another, that was obvious. Matt didn't need eyes — or any of his enhanced senses, to be honest — to know that all that anger stemmed from a deeply rooted fear of loss, on both sides. The girl's story was a mystery, but it was easy to figure out it wasn't a pretty one. The question was, how did Frank Castle fit in it?
