“So, Kakashi, have any… crushes, on anyone? Romantic inclinations?”
The ten year old looks at him dubiously; “A shinobi has no use for unnecessary emotion.”
And that’s exactly why this conversation is so important, why Minato needs to get through to him—even if only a little—because this is not okay, and Kakashi seriously needs to just let himself be a person before a shinobi, even if that means awkward conversations about adolescent crushes.
“I had a crush on Kushina.” It’s true. Kushina laughed at him for months the first time he’d mentioned it even though they’d been dating for years. “Does that make me a bad shinobi?” Okay, so maybe weaponizing the kid’s admiration for him isn’t exactly the mature choice to make, but needs must and all that.
“No!” Kakashi cries with such an outrage that it seems to startle even him for a moment.

Summary
For two weeks, Kakashi leaves the house in the mornings to buy fresh groceries and let Naruto get some fresh air. He spends his time cleaning, changing Naruto’s nappies, or feeding him. He reads on a chair next to the crib while Naruto sleeps, and eats his own food one-handed, his left pointer finger perennially relinquished to Naruto’s unreasonably strong grip.
Every evening, he walks to the hospital and sits by Minato’s bed for a while.
“He did well today, sensei,” Kakashi mutters in a soft voice, rocking Naruto in his arms. “Drank his bottles at the right times and didn’t cry once.”
Naruto giggles, blinks up at Kakashi. He sighs, rocks him a little more gently.
On the bed, Minato doesn’t move. He’s pale and gaunt. The skin sagging a little. He looks older than he is. His lips are cracked, though Tsunade has assured Kakashi that the drips connected to Minato’s arms are keeping him hydrated enough.
“You’ve got to wake up, sensei,” he whispers. “I don’t think I can raise your kid alone.” He swallows the lump in his throat, squares his shoulders. “But I’ll do it. You don’t have to worry. I’ve got this.”

*and some other people...Hetty chewed the inside of her lip as she considered Flower's words. “When I was alive there was only one acceptable position for…a game of nug-a-nug…”
Flower giggled. "Nug-a-nug. I love that." She resumed fiddling with the rug as she spoke. "Well, is your lover a man or a woman?" she asked.
Hetty's eyes widened, breath caught in her throat as she spluttered, “Is my…a man or a…my goodness!” She took a deep breath, cheeks aflame with incredulity. “A man. Obviously.”
