The Kingdom of Avalon has fallen. Arthur finds himself the reluctant keeper of the fallen enemy prince.

"You don't have to, you know," Arthur said. "Not all the time."
"What?" came Merlin's clipped response from the corner after a moment.
Arthur turned around to face his captive. "Be this," he gestured at Merlin broadly. "Be defiant, brave...stoic...all the time. It's painful to watch."
Merlin did not answer. Arthur sighed.
"Just...just...when that door closes, when we reach the end of the day. Just allow yourself to relax for just a while." Arthur tried on a small smile, holding his palms up in a gesture of surrender. "I promise I won't tell anybody."

Summary
The magic reveal is not glamorous. After Ismere, Merlin confesses practically on a whim—while in the midst of his evening chores—and Arthur is forced to question everything he thinks he knows.
