Whitaker stares out the window, relishing in the silence of the room, only the hum of the box fan filling the quiet. He takes another bite of his pizza, trying to get the phantom sounds of voices and alarms to get out of his head. It always stays afterwards, that constant beeping of an EKG, call light, the sirens in the ambulance bay from an incoming trauma, the ringing of the phone.

A nod into his hands. “Good. Listen to me carefully, my dear. If you want, I can take it all away for a little while. If you put me on, I will get us both out of here, and you don’t have to see or think about anything. How does that sound?”

After being kidnapped and held for ransom by one of the city's younger and more reckless thieves guilds, Azune is injured and traumatized to the point where his friends can't rescue him without hurting him worse. Letting Bolaire put him on/putting on the mask lets Hal, Bolaire, and Murray get him out of there, but taking him off again will be a lengthier, and gentler, process.

"Ever perceptive, my lady." Julien's bow is precise, regimented, rehearsed - exactly as deep as it needs to be to convey respect to the other Houses, and not an inch more. Trust him, of all people, to treat a social situation like a combat encounter. "What gave it away?"
"The hunched shoulders, mostly. Also the frowning, and the general air of aggression."
That coaxes a laugh out of him, a low, barking thing. He snorts, rolls his eyes at Aranessa for the barb, and she finds herself hard pressed not to smile, yet again.
It's easy to be informal around him. Too easy. It's part of why she tries to keep some degree of distance at events like this, more for her sake than his. She can't let the mask slip - but with him, the temptation has always been to forgo it entirely.

Julien is woefully out of practice in the ways of dance. Aranessa is more than happy to help teach him.
