Summary
There are two kinds of creatures that live in the sea.
The mermaids.
And the Nightswimmers.
Chase lives near the surface. He heard stories of the dark below, of unholy creatures who eat their babies and kill anything that moves. But one day he deicides to venture down after hearing a melancholic song. He meets this boy who is the meanest mermaid he has ever seen.
Nox lives in the dark, where no light reaches except the lights on his tail. It gets kind of lonely. To break the silence and peace he sang and what he attracted was not fish, but a mermaid. It was odd. But the mermaids are his enemy, there is no way this boy is not out for trouble, right?
The two boys are pushed from their beliefs that was taught to them since childhood when they find that each of them are actually not that bad. But would their group be okay with their knew found belief? Or will they try and separate them? A fight brews between the two species as new truths arise. How will Chase and Buddy be able to see each other again?

When Buddy and Violet are kidnapped by Ex-Libris, it's up to Chase and Deacon to find the two and rescue them. Their only clue to the keys' location is an island located near Europe. Chase and Deacon turn to research, history, and their lineage for clues and begin to slowly unravel the dark origins of Ex-Libris.
