Summary
As far as Gavin was concerned, there was nothing good that came of being a Guide or a Sentinel. The way he saw it, if you had to have a status at all, it was better all-around to be a Neutral. Leastwise, if you were a Neutral, you could do whatever you wanted and be whatever you wanted without restrictions.
Figuring out he wasn't a Neutral hadn't been easy, but by god, he'd done it.
Figuring out how he was going to deal with a Guide as a partner? He'd do that too. Probably.

Summary
Slowly, like the trickling warmth of the tide coming in, the flush rises in Gavin's cheeks. He doesn't answer, just stomps away as belligerently as he can with two dozen eggs nestled in his apron, while Tina and Chris exchange their animated chatter. Spellbound still, Nines follows Gavin with his eyes until he stomps into the staff entrance and disappears from sight.
Two different things, what Nines is meant to do and what he has come here for.
