Kageyama blinks once before a grin of his own spreads over his face. Shouyou’s breath halts in his lungs at the sight, and he wills for time to stop, just so that he can drink it in. He sees it sometimes when they’re playing - Kageyama’s fierce smile when they pull a combo off just right, when they show their opponents how possible the impossible can really be. But then there’s another serve, another rally, and the moment is gone.
'Shame,' Shouyou thinks to himself, as he lets his eyes roam over Kageyama’s stupidly happy face, taking in the creases that are from joy rather than frowning for a change. 'It’s a really nice smile.'

“No,” Tobio snarls. “It was Miwa, so we have to…”
He trails off as it occurs to him that he has no plan. His big sister is downstairs, having just caught him rather obviously doing something with someone, because he didn’t hide the evidence well enough in his panic, and the culprit is still in his room. Tobio starts wondering wildly whether it’s feasible that if he and Hinata just shut the door and stay put, they can literally ignore the problem until she goes away.
“Miwa?” Hinata pipes up, derailing Tobio’s runaway train of thought by looking absolutely delighted, for some inane reason. “Can I say hi?”

Summary
Kageyama Tobio leads a simple life: he goes to work and writes music for money, he goes home and writes music for himself. His only company being his beloved cat, Carrot, who is sweet and perfect and perhaps just a little bit spoiled. So when Kageyama takes Carrot to the vets for her annual check-up, only to be told by the vet that she is drastically overweight and needs to go on a diet, he is horrified. And rather insulted.
Reluctantly agreeing to put his cat on a diet, Kageyama is at first determined to simply put up with Hinata, his new vet, until Ukai recovers from his bad back and can return. But, unfortunately, things don't go quite to plan as Carrot becomes immediately smitten with Hinata, her owner following suit soon after.

And isn't it amazing that people pick up gardening as a hobby, cherish their green thumbs, cultivate life in the loving embrace of topsoil teeming with nutrients— and sometimes end up with nothing but wilted stems? Isn't it incredible that a single dry season, a single infestation of vine borers or aphids, or a poorly timed drenching rain can destroy all that burgeoning new life— yet microorganisms can wriggle their way into the cracks and crevices of unloving places, can take the bare minimum required to sustain growth, and thrive in ecosystems not meant to accommodate something with the desire to live?
