Summary
This daffodil filled Stone with a sense of a relief, a kind of pleasure that radiates from beauty alone. Its long white petals were like a coronet crowning its center: its heart and cup. The flower whirled between his fingers. He always had some attachment to the more common flowers instead of the fancy ones. The beautiful flower quickly became an ornament for his leather jacket and stayed that way even in the evening.

Summary
Techno sait se débrouiller par lui même depuis son plus jeune âge. De jour en jour, année en année, il a apprit. Il sait comment s'occuper du ménage, se nourrir correctement, réussir en classe : il s'en sort par lui même, sans l'aide de ses parents. Il n'en a pas besoin après tout, puisqu'il sait se débrouiller. Il n'a pas besoin qu'on lui tienne la main ou qu'on le traite comme un enfant.
Phil Craft et ses fils, Wilbur et Tommy, ne semblent néanmoins pas l'entendre de cette manière.
Ou : Phil surprend un enfant tout seul au parc, et découvre au fil des années qu'aucun adulte ne semble le sortir de sa misère. Inutile de dire que ça ne plaît pas à la famille Craft et que celle-ci va s'investir autant que possible pour sortir Techno de là.

Le temps presse et les deux frères ne sont pas au bout de leur peine pour s'en sortir.
