Why post this? I wanted to get a feel if anyone out there really even wanted a story like this? more info in notes.
The end, death and then that's it.. You just close your eyes and suddenly the world just ends? At least that's what Arthur thought, it unsettled him but he had come to terms with it the moment he found out he was sick- not in the sense of a cold no sick in the sense of **dying**. So when his time finally came, beyond exhausted he closed his eyes on that cliff watching the sun set.. Darkness settled around him. In the end, the book would be closed and tucked away in the library filled with other meaningless lives- yet mother could not let him have that, having to relive it all again with very little control.. Or so he thinks.

Charles' stormy expression melted into something softer, something sadder. He knelt in front of Arthur, Smith's big hands clasping over Morgan's.
"No one deserves it, Arthur. No one has the right to hurt you." He said, quiet but confident. His brown eyes shone with unshed tears and Arthur felt a pang of shame knowing he was the cause of them. "I wish you'd see that you're worth kindness, Arthur. That you deserve good things."
Arthur felt a pang behind his heart.
"I haven't got the slightest idea what you see in me, Charles. I'm a no good criminal, I'm beyond savin'," he sighed, glancing down. Charles raised his head by the chin, staring into his eyes with pure determination. It was intoxicating.
"No, you're not. I will repeat it to you everyday if I have to, Arthur Morgan. I can promise you that." Arthur felt Charles' breath on his skin, they were so close. "You're a good man."

Then came Micah and brought this evil with himself, oozing it wherever he went, infecting Dutch and others with his rhetoric. Encouraging Dutch to become more and more extreme, giving him ideas on how to punish the family for their misdeeds.
A decade ago, John wouldn’t have believed something like that could have happened. That Dutch would allow it.
He wondered if the talks about not being monsters were nothing but a rouse, after all. If what he saw now was who Dutch always was.

"'S fine. Had it way worse, y'know." He mumbled out, eyes gazing down on his thumbs. Charles did not look comforted by this, though. Quite the opposite. His expression grew sterner as he took out some disinfectants and other supplies.
"Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt." He just said, gently touching up Arthur's cut lip. It stung - of course it did - but something about Smith's slow and gentle movements made it hurt less. Made it... intimate, almost. The way Charles' brows furrowed in focus as he leaned closer, his skin a beautiful molten bronze in the golden light of the lamp. Arthur remembered pictures of statues from Hosea's books and he thought that Charles could easily be one of them. Composed, strong, beautiful.
Arthur did not realise he was staring until his eyes shifted to focus on Charles' lips and he thought: I could kiss this man.
