Spike planted his hands on the boards to either side of the human’s head and pushed himself off of the fence, successfully disengaging from the boy’s grasp. He thoughtfully turned and angrily fished in his coat pockets as he regarded the boy. After a moment, the vampire spoke. “So let me get this straight. You despise me all this time, and now you wanna shag? Are you incredibly drunk?”
Xander stumbled to him, wrapping arms around him and pulled him back to lean on the fence. The vampire felt the boy’s hands move to his hips and start to pull. “Look, I don’t understand it any better than you do. All I know is that I’ve been Denial-Guy, and I can’t hide it anymore--and I have to fix that. Starting now.”

Summary
Not long after the end of the Sunshot Campaign, Lan Wangji learns that there is a special kind of heartbreak in being separated from Wei Ying.
The ache was never so keen in the past, for the two of them were always bound by common purpose whether they were together or apart: first in their ill-fated search for the scattered shards of the yintie, and then through the Wen indoctrination and the long months of war that followed. But then Wei Ying returned to Yunmeng, and Lan Wangji returned to Gusu; and for the first time since he and Wei Ying met, Lan Wangji finally realized what it was to be parted from his beloved.
It is for this reason that Lan Wangji agrees to go to the crowd-hunt in Lanling that autumn, some six months after the victory banquet in Qishan.
