The UNSC Hail Mary is roughly a month out from entering Tau-Ceti's orbit when its main computer comes online and begins Crew Wake-Up protocol, a procedure meant to allow its crew members to become reacquainted with each other, their surroundings and most importantly, to rebuild their muscle memory and cognitive functions after having spent four plus years in medical comas.
Only to find that instead of the three living crewmen it was supposed to be carrying, only one had managed to survive the journey.
Because of this, the system unexpectedly suffers a glitch, realizing the need for human accompaniment and the danger of a single person going without one, and begins searching for a solution amongst its files.
It finds one incredible answer.
