So when he had finally agreed to a dinner date at Hoffman’s—one that he was willing to let the man cook for, at that—the detective had decided to go all out.

Summary
Hoffman should have anticipated that Strahm would want revenge for the water cube trap. Even if he’d eventually seen reason and joined their cause, the damage that trap had done wasn’t pretty. The hydrophobia, the tremors—frankly scar on his neck was the least of it. So yeah, he had plenty of reason to want to do the same to Hoffman.
